The Road So Far

One of my favorite shows is a little one called Supernatural. It follows two brothers hunting all the things that go bump in the night. One of its recurring motifs was the end-of-season recap—the “Road so far.” It was always a moment I looked forward to, as some of the wildest scenes from the past year were relived to classic rock.

While I don’t have the music rights to Kansas, I do have the ability to reflect on the road so far here at CodekasWrites.

This month marks one year of the website.

One year of writing about the faith.
One year of reflecting on Scripture.
One year of growth—not just as a writer, but as a person.

The site originally began with a simple purpose: to bring more attention to my published works, In the Shadow of the Cross and Blessed are the Pure. My thought was straightforward—offer free reflections on the faith, and perhaps readers would be led to explore the books as well. Writing weekly articles became a way to avoid stagnation, to stay disciplined, and to keep showing up.

And that consistency began to take on a life of its own.

Not long after, I won a local short story contest at the library with The Toll Booth to Everywhere. The story centers on a mysterious toll booth that analyzes a drop of your blood, discerns your heart’s deepest desire, and sends you there… and then—when?

At first, I thought that was the end of it.

But then another story came.
Then another.
And another.

What began as a single idea has now grown into what I hope will eventually become a full collection of interconnected stories—a universe of sorts, exploring deeper questions about desire, sacrifice, and the human soul.

And now, most recently, something new has begun.

I’ve launched Salt & Light—where faith preserves and illumines, a weekly subscription featuring Gospel reflections paired with guided journal prompts. It’s a shift—from simply writing to more intentional formation. Not just offering content, but helping others engage the faith more deeply and personally.

But if this past year has taught me anything, it’s this:

Growth doesn’t come from waiting for the perfect moment.
It comes from showing up—again and again.

Writing when you don’t feel like it.
Publishing when it would be easier not to.
Continuing, even when no one seems to notice.

Year one was about building.

Year two will be about sharpening—refining the voice, deepening the work, and continuing to create something that not only speaks about the faith, but helps others live it.

And as part of that, I want to invite you into what comes next.

To celebrate one year of CodekasWrites, I’m offering Salt & Light at a special anniversary rate for this month:

👉 $5/month (normally $7)

If you’ve been reading along, reflecting, or even just stopping in from time to time—this is an opportunity to go deeper. Not just to read, but to engage. To pray. To grow.

This rate will be available through the end of the month.

So to everyone who has read, shared, supported, or simply taken the time to engage with what I’ve written—

Thank you.

The road so far has been good.
The road ahead looks even better.
